31 August – Arrival in Gambell, AK

Posted on

Our first full day in Gambell was very windy and cold. Winds were not in a favorable direction to bring in goodies. We spent the morning doing seawatch where I managed to pick up King Eiders for the year. I also added a Sharp-tailed Sandpiper which flew over and landed in the sewage pond, one of our soon-to-be daily stops.

Our leaders for this trip are Aaron Lang and James Huntington. There are 7 birders in our group and we are all staying together in a house rented from a local. There are 5 Big Year birders on the island, the Stolls, the Deans and me. All groups help each other out to find the birds.

Internet is sketchy. Will try to post when I can.
