Yesterday it rained all day. We changed our schedule and decided to go to Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park.
I have seen many volcanoes in my life but never an active one.
I also wanted to see the nesting colony of Hawaiian Noddies along the rocky cliffs of the park. I got my wish for both. The rain was a slight nuisance but we persevered and enjoyed the many wonders here.
The primordial force of a volcano reminds us that we are not in control. As you walk around this park, the past and present melded together, you feel awestruck.
The Big Island has 8 of the world’s climate zones. This is reason enough to visit. A trip to Volcanoes NP is a must. My only regret is that I didn’t have several days to take it all in.
I didn’t add any new birds but hearing the continuous singing of Apapanes, watching the graceful flight of Noddies and seeing the force of Mother Nature, made for an incredible experience. My total still stands at 806.
I lost my phone at dinner and a Good Samaritan found it and returned it today. Very lucky indeed.
