Day 67 – Ipswich, Rockport and Gloucester, MA

Posted on

Pink-footed Goose, Common Eider, Purple Sandpiper, Thick-billed Murre, Razorbill, White-winged Scoter and Great Cormorant! A very nice group of birds that I saw today to bring my count to 441 for 2017!!

In the past 3 days I’ve flown from the East Coast to Anchorage and back to Boston. I leave for Naples, FL tomorrow morning. I’m very sleep deprived so I will keep this post short.

I flew all night and got into Boston this morning to go birding with my friend Patty O’Neill. We went straight from the airport to a wild goose chase. Literally!! We scanned many fields filled with Canada Geese looking for someone a little different. It required some effort and a scope but we finally found it! One solitary Pink-footed Goose.

Another day, another life bird!

Patty was instrumental in helping me decide to do an ABA Big Year. We’ve been on several chases together and discussed my strategy for 2017.

I’m trying to see 700 species in the ABA region and Patty has almost 7000 life birds all over the world!! I had sent her my list of potential birds and we went along the coastline looking for my targets.

I aimed pretty high. I put Dovekie on my wish list but it was too much to hope for. Not too shabby adding 7 birds though!

I’m homesick, I’m tired of cold weather and there are some pretty cool birds waiting for me at home in Naples.

Picture gallery tonight is weak. I don’t digiscope and most of the seabirds were way out. Looking at birds through a scope all day.
